A multi-agency security team has launched investigations after an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion that occurred on Monday April 7, 2025 at an eatery in Shafshafey area of Mandera, leaving one person injured.
Police confirmed that the explosion had blown off the hotel’s rooftop and caused visible cracks in the walls.
At the time of the incident, four customers were inside the eatery. Three of them escaped unhurt, while one individual sustained a fractured left femur and injuries to the abdomen.
The injured victim was promptly rushed to Mandera Referral Hospital, where he is currently in stable condition and receiving treatment.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that two of those who escaped unhurt are the masterminds behind the attack,” DCI reported.
They have since been apprehended and are currently in custody as investigations continue.
Meanwhile, officers are pursuing a bodaboda rider who brought the suspects to the hotel and fled immediately after the incident.
