The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has swiftly moved to rescue Busia residents amid insecurity cries.
Taking to their X (formerly Twitter) account, the Criminal Investigators confirmed the arrest of two suspects behind a string of violent robberies which have left area residents in fear.
The duo, Boniface Nyongesa Masakari and Denis Obelo Ekisa, were nabbed in Malaba following a thorough search by the detectives who acted on an intelligence report.
During the arrest, the detectives also confirmed the retrieval of a pistol loaded with ammunitions.
“The suspects, Boniface Nyongesa Masakari and Denis Obelo Ekisa, were smoked out of their hideout in Malaba township, where authorities recovered a Tokarev pistol loaded with eight rounds of 7.62 x 25mm ammunition from Boniface Nyongesa’s residence,” DCI announced to the public.
The suspects are currently in custody undergoing processing as they await arraignment.
Nearly one month ago, Busia residents made a special plea to security personnels after a middle aged man’s body was found dumped in a sewage culvert.
According to them, there was laxity among police officers urging their County Commissioner to consider replacing some officers and increase patrols to restore their confidence in the security of the region.
“Here in Busia, it seems like the police are not doing their job. We would like to request the county commissioner to replace some of the officers and bring new ones so that at least we can see some difference,” one resident cried.
