The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Tuesday, 15th April 2025, arrested two officials over alleged corruption.
According to a statement from the anti-graft body, Mr. Boniface Mukaisi Mutsunga, the Civil Registrar stationed at the Kakamega Huduma Centre, and Amos Kiplangat Yegon, a Civil Registration Officer from the Kakamega Civil Registration Department were allegedly soliciting and receiving bribes from applicants seeking civil registration documents.
The duo were allegedly soliciting the bribes through a privately-operated MPESA Till Number to expediate service delivery. Upon investigations, the MPESA Till number was discovered to be pointing to a coordinated bribery syndicate.
At the time of their arrest, the officials had just received Ksh. 2,500 to facilitate the processing of a birth certificate.
The suspects were detained at Bungoma Police Station awaiting further processing at the EACC’s Western Regional Offices in Bungoma.
Assuring citizens of intense operation in their effort to fully eliminate bribery in Government offices, EACC has announced ongoing crackdown aimed at curtailing corruption incidences.
“EACC has intensified crackdown on corruption at service delivery points, acknowledging that bribery not only compromises justice but also hinders citizens’ access to vital services and diminishes trust in public institutions,” EACC partly stated.
The Commission also reiterates its commitment to holding public officers accountable and ensuring equitable service delivery for all Kenyans.
