Nyamira Council of Elders have issued an ultimatum to their Members of County Assembly(MCAs) to find a solution and cease their differences.

While speaking to one Media House, the elders noted they fail to understand why their MCAs are not working together as opposed to their fellows in other 46 counties who are united for the benefit of their various ward residents.

“Counties zingine watu wanakaa wanaelewana wanaongea maendeleo, that is our concern. Sisi kama wazee na leaders tunataka kusema hiyo itoshe! Tutawaita, we have the capacity to call them and account to us,” Mary Barongo, member of Borabu elders stated.

The old men and women wonder the main reason behind the widening rift among the MCAs who are currently operating in two assemblies yet they were voted in to better the region.

“Tumekuja kukaa hapa kuulizana ni kwa nini hawa vijana wetu wa nyumbani wanapigana kila siku. Wako na speaker wawili. Hawaskizani. Wengine wanaenda bunge huko mashinani lakini si mashinani hatujui ni bunge gani na sisi tuliwachagua waende County Assembly ya Nyamira,” George Nyakundi, Chairman Mwanyagetinge Elders lamented.

According to them, the ongoing rift among the MCAs is choking the County’s Development noting they are out to solidly address the matter to see no further conflict .

“Tunasema kuwa kuanzia leo, mambo ya kukuwa na Asemblies mbili kaunti ya Nyamira yakome. Wabunge wetu pamoja na MCAs hawajaketi chini na kama wameketi hakuna jambo ambalo imetokea. Na ndiposa wazee wamechukua jukumu kuhakikisha kuwa wameita viongozi wote pamoja ili waje waketi chini mambo yao wazungumze kwa mara ya kwanza na mara ya mwisho,” Nelson Gichana, member of Gusii Elders dsirected.

The Elder’s directive follows Nyamira Governor Amos  Nyaribo’s sentiments threatening to write to President William Ruto to dissolve the County Assembly if the conflict among the Ward Representatives continues.

Speaking on Breakfast 47,  the Governor blamed some leaders of Nyamira county including Senator Okong’o Omogeni and Member of Parliament Joash Nyamoko, saying they are fueling the ongoing tension in the county.

Others whom he has blamed are those he defeated in the 2022 General Election and those aiming for the Gubernatorial seat in 2027’s election.

The County currently has two Assemblies with two speakers.

The first parliament is that led by ousted and Former Speaker Enock Okero, holding its meetings in areas he chose and called the “Bunge Mashinani”.

The other parliament is that led by Speaker Thaddeus Nyabaro who is holding his sessions in the County’s parliament.
