President William Ruto has suspended Dr. Swarup Mishra from his position as Chair of the Kenya BioVax Institute with immediate effect, pending investigations into serious allegations of unethical and illegal medical practices.
Dr. Mishra, who is also the founder of Mediheal Hospital and Fertility Centre in Eldoret, is at the centre of an emerging scandal involving questionable kidney transplant procedures. The hospital has been flagged in ongoing investigations by relevant authorities.
In a statement issued by State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed, the President emphasized the government’s firm stance on integrity, especially within critical sectors such as healthcare.
“The suspension shall remain in force pending the outcome of investigations into serious allegations of unethical and illegal activities involving kidney transplant procedures,” the statement read.
President Ruto reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fighting corruption and safeguarding public trust in medical institutions, adding that the government is determined to ensure accountability, uphold public safety, and deliver justice for victims.
The Kenya BioVax Institute, which plays a vital role in the country’s health and vaccine manufacturing efforts, is expected to remain under interim leadership as investigations proceed.
