President Ruto has asked Parliament to pass the Conflict of Interest Bill in his determination to end corruption in the country.

Speaking during an Easter service at Ntulele, Narok County, today Sunday, 20^th April, 2025, President William Ruto urged the legislators to carefully consider the memorandum containing his proposals and pass it within three weeks.

He emphasized his keen interest in liberating Kenyans from corrupt individuals misusing their power.

“I said ili kuondoa mambo ya ufisadi, ambayo sehemu kubwa inachangiwa na interest ya wale watu ambao wako na uwezo. Tukasema tutapitisha sheria ya conflict of interest,” he stated.

He further noted his willingness to veto Parliament decision if it fails to meet bare minimums in fight against the menace.

“Niliahidi bunge wakati huo ya kwamba wasipopitisha sheria ambayo inalingana na vile tulikubaliana na Wakenya. Sheria ambayo itakomesha mambo ya ufisadi, ubinafsi na watu kutumia ofisi za serikali kujinufaisha wao wenyewe na familia zao na marafiki zao mimi nitaweka veto mpaka nipitishe sheria ambayo itakomesha ufisadi katika taifa letu la Kenya,” he insisted referring  to instance where he rejected the bill and returned memorandum to Parliamentarians.

“Wiki tatu zijazo, bunge lazima ipitishe sheria vile nimependekeza ndio tuweze kukomesha mambo ya ubinafsi katika procurement na utendakazi wa mambo ya serekali. I want to ask Parliament both National Assembly and Senate to carefully consider the memorandum I’ve sent to them on making sure that we stop conflict of interest that undermine delivery and provision of Public Service in the Republic of Kenya,” he concluded.

President Ruto declined to assent to the bill on Thursday 17^th April, 2025, instead sent it back to Parliament for revision citing what he termed as weak provisions.

Speaking at State House, the Head of State noted the need for further improvements to strengthen its provisions on transparency and enforcement to align it with the constitutional values of integrity and good governance.
