A family in Kajiado County, Emakoko village in Ongata Rongai is writhing in pain after a roaming lioness snatched and killed their daughter.
While recounting the incident, Charles Romo, a village Elder at Emakoko village stated that the lioness got into a house which had three kids, pounced on one and took her away.
They got into a thorough search for the young girl only to find that she had been mauled by the big cat at the Savannah ranch just near Mbagathi River.
“Simba alikuja boma hili akaingia nyumba hii. Watoto walikuwa watatu, akachukua mtoto mmoja akaenda naye mpaka mtoni. Tulishughulika usiku yote tukapata huyo mtoto ashaliwa almost 80%,” Romo painfully narrated.
The grade 7 pupil’s father Kennedy Kigen on the other hand detailed how he helplessly witnessed his daughter’s death.
“Nimekuwa hapo karibu nikaskia nduru, kukuja kusaidia nikapata ni mtoto wangu anabebwa hatukuweza kusaidia,” Kigen stated.
The mother of the deceased girl, identified as Elizabeth, is calling for government intervention following the tragic happening.
”Wanisaidie kwa sababu mtoto wangu amekuliwa, mimi sina mbele na nyuma,’the woman pleaded.
Following the incident, area residents have called upon the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and the Government as a whole to come to their rescue and act swiftlyt so as to avoid more deaths in the hands of wild animals.
According to them, the animals are constantly roaming the region noting they can’t exercise simple farming highlighting that even monkeys destroy their crops.
”Tungeomba serekali ituwekee electrical fence kutoka Rongai mpaka Kitengela. Itasaidia wanyama kutokuja upande wetu,” Salesio Ntaugu, an area resident urged.
KWS confirmed the incident noting that they have deployed search teams and set a trap for the roaming lioness.
