Police have issued a statement following the unfortunate collapse of a septic tank beneath a football hall that left four feared dead.

According to the officers, the septic tank collapse in Bamburi Mwisho area of Nyali Constituency, Mombasa County remains a delicate matter and recovery exercise noting that no body or survivor has been retrieved so far.

Mombasa fire & rescue department alongside police and emergency services are working on the scene to secure fans who were gathered watching a football match before the unfortunate incident.

“It remains a RECOVERY exercise. No news of any body this far,” the officers stated.

According to the police, the depth of the underground hole where the incident took place is approximated at 120 feet.

In previous report, Mombasa County Commissioner Mohammed Noor stated that the incident occurred at around 6 PM while fans were watching a football match.

The hall that had been constructed directly over the septic tank sunk leading to fear of demise of four.

Two of the victims were reportedly seated in the front row of the hall, while the other two were in the middle section when the structure collapsed.

This incident comes nearly a month after a similar tragedy in Siaya County, where two students from Ramba Boys High School lost their lives after a septic tank collapsed beneath them on March 22,2025 around 6 PM.

The students had been standing on top of the tank when it caved in, trapping them. Two others were rescued and rushed to the hospital.
