Kenya and China have deepened their cooperation in Criminal Justice.

According to a post made by the Office of Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), DPP Renson Ingonga, held talks with Mr. Luo Qing, Permanent Member of the Procuratorial Committee in Hunan Province, China, and Mr. Wu Zhou, Chairman of the Kenya China Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCCI) at his Nairobi office.

The trio held discussions focused on criminal justice reform, legal cooperation, and economic development, highlighting the importance of strong prosecutorial systems in fostering international trade and curbing transnational crime.

“We are committed to strengthening our systems through shared knowledge and joint initiatives. This partnership will allow us to better address cross-border challenges such as corruption, economic crimes, and terrorism,” DPP Ingonga noted.

He reiterated the role of the Prosecution Training institute-Kenya, the only one in East and Central Africa in equipping prosecutors with the requisite knowledge and skills to handle the ever evolving crimes.

Mr. Luo Qing on the other hand emphasized the potential for synergy between Kenya’s Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) and China’s Supreme People’s Procuratorate (SPP).

“A fair and efficient justice system is critical to building investor confidence and ensuring sustainable economic growth,” he noted.

Both parties agreed to a mutual pact to establish joint training and exchange programs for prosecutorial teams. These initiatives, they noted, will focus on capacity building in combating complex and transnational crimes.
