Prime suspect behind a harrowing arson attack that wiped a family of nine in Sigomre, Upanda village in Ugunja Sub County, Siaya County, has been arrested in Kibera, Nairobi.
According to authorities, 56-year-old Christopher Okello Owino, who had reportedly gone into hiding, was nabbed in Kianda area inside his house while having supper with his children.
The authorities further explain receiving a tip off from neighbours who were informed by Christopher over his travel to his rural home in Sigomre in Siaya where the unfortunate incident occurred.
The authorities acted swiftly in collaboration with area leaders and members of the public leading to his arrest.
Kibera Sub County Police Commander Patricia Yegon confirmed the arrest and currently, both Siaya and Kibera authorities have cross-checked their intelligence confirming that Christopher Okello Owino match the identity of the suspect behind the attack.
“The case is not ours, but once he is handed over to the Siaya team, they will interrogate him and gather more details, especially to determine if other individuals were involved,”Yegon said.
Siaya officers are expected to charge him in court upon transfer in bid to attain justice for the family wiped out.
Detectives have confiscated the suspect’s phones for forensic analysis in efforts geared towards identifying and arresting possible accomplices.
