The Directorate of Criminal Investigations DCI has released an update on the ongoing probe into the tragic shooting of Charles Ong’ondo Were Mp for Kaspul.
According to a statement issued today by DCI spokesperson John Marete, an autopsy led by Chief Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor is scheduled for Monday, May 5, 2025.
The post-mortem is expected to provide further insight into the exact cause of death and support the ongoing investigation.
Matete said a specialized team of detectives from the DCI Homicide Bureau, supported by forensic experts from the National Forensic Laboratory, was immediately dispatched to the crime scene upon receiving the report of the incident.
“The team meticulously examined the crime scene and collected critical evidence essential to the investigation’s progress,” Marete stated.
Detectives have since reconstructed Were’s movements from Parliament to the scene of the shooting, a forensic analysis that has yielded significant leads and helped narrow down potential suspects. While the motive remains under investigation, preliminary findings suggest the shooting was targeted and premeditated.
The DCI also called on the public to remain calm and avoid speculation as investigations continue.
“We are committed to holding those responsible accountable and delivering justice to Hon. Were’s family and the nation,” Marete said.
Members of the public with any information related to the incident are urged to contact the nearest police station or reach out via the toll-free lines 999, 112, or #FichuaKwaDCI (0800 722 203).
The DCI has assured the public of its unwavering dedication to resolving the case and promised further updates as progress is made.
