President William Ruto has sent a passionate message of support to Arsenal Football Club ahead of their crucial UEFA Champions League semi-final clash against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), expressing optimism that the Gunners can secure a spot in the finals.

Speaking on Friday, May 2, at State House Nairobi during the ceremonial reception of the UEFA Champions League trophy, the Head of State—well-known for his devotion to the English Premier League side—said he was confident Arsenal would turn the tide in their favor.

“As has been said, I am an Arsenal supporter, and I hope they overturn the one-nil loss to PSG this week when they meet in Paris next Wednesday and advance to the finals to hopefully lift this trophy,” Ruto stated.

Arsenal trails by a single goal after the first leg against the French giants. But Ruto believes the North London club, which is enjoying one of its best seasons in recent years, has what it takes to rise to the occasion and book a place in the final showdown scheduled for Munich, Germany.

“Since I am the last to hold it, I am praying for my team so that this year they lift this trophy in the finals. Whichever team you are rooting for, let us enjoy the game,” he added, holding the iconic silverware with a smile.

Arsenal will travel to Paris for the decisive second leg at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday, May 7. A win by more than one goal would see them advance to the final and potentially end their long wait for Champions League glory.

President Ruto’s remarks have since sparked excitement among local football fans, many of whom took to social media to echo his sentiments and cheer on the Gunners.

The Champions League trophy’s presence at State House is part of its global tour, offering fans a rare glimpse of the prestigious prize and stirring anticipation for Europe’s biggest football night.

Will Arsenal rise to the challenge and fulfil the prayers of their most prominent Kenyan fan? All eyes now turn to Paris.
