Four suspects have been arrested in Nairobi’s Runda estate in connection with a fake gold scam after defrauding a foreign national over KSh25.8 million (USD 200,000).

The operation, carried out by a joint team of DCI officers from Nairobi Region and DCI Gigiri, led to the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of 9.5 kilograms of fake gold bars and various items believed to be used in their fraudulent trade.

Those arrested include; Felix Odiambo Otieno, Derrick Odhiambo Omore, Mohamed Ibrahim Mohamed, and Moses Odhiambo Auma. They were apprehended at a house located on plot number 685 along Glory Valley Lane, following a tip-off from the defrauded victim.

According to police, several other suspects managed to flee during the raid.

A search of the premises uncovered fake gold bars, a weighing machine, a plastic briefcase containing an electronic gold testing device (tester gun), and assorted documents believed to be linked to the scam.

Officers processed the scene, secured the exhibits, and took the suspects into custody pending formal charges.

Authorities say the arrests follow growing concern over the rise of fake gold syndicates targeting unsuspecting investors, particularly foreigners.
