Homa Bay Deputy Governor Joseph Oyugi Magwanga narrowly escaped a suspected assassination attempt after his official vehicle was attacked on Sunday, May 11, 2025 at around 9 p.m.
According to preliminary reports, the Deputy Governor was not in the targeted car during the time of the incident near his home in Kabuor Village, Kasipul constituency.
Oyugi had opted to travel in a different vehicle after allegedly receiving reports that he was being trailed.
His security detail, who were in the official vehicle, engaged in a brief exchange of gunfire with the attackers. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
Authorities have launched investigations into the attack to identify the assailants and establish their motive.
