Finally, controversial gospel artist Alex Nyanchonga Apoko, popularly known as Ringtone, appeared in court on Thursday, 15 May 2025, after authorities issued a warrant for his arrest.
Prosecutors charged Ringtone with conspiring to defraud a Nairobi woman, Teresiah Adhiambo Odhiambo, of a parcel of land worth KSh50 million.
They allege that the singer attempted to unlawfully acquire the property, which sits somewhere in Nairobi though the court did not disclose the exact location.
Ringtone’s court appearance marks the first in this case, despite his involvement in several other legal disputes. His history of skipping court prompted the warrant and raised concerns about his compliance with judicial processes.
In court, Ringtone claimed he was unwell. The magistrate responded by ordering a pre-bail report to evaluate his medical condition and determine whether he qualifies for bail.
The report will also consider his past failures to attend court in his other ongoing cases.
The court directed authorities to remand Ringtone until Monday, May 20, when officials will present the report and the magistrate will decide on his bail application.
This case adds yet another chapter to Ringtone’s growing list of controversies offstage drama that continues to rival his gospel career in headlines.
