A woman has been arrested after officers from the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) seized over 1,700 bottles of suspected counterfeit alcohol at a bar in the Uruku area of Nyandarua North.

The raid was conducted following a tip-off from members of the public, leading to the discovery of the illicit consignment hidden in storage within the premises.

The seized alcohol, believed to be unlicensed and potentially harmful, lacked proper labeling and Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) stamps.

According to NACADA officials, the operation is part of a broader crackdown on the sale and distribution of illegal alcoholic beverages in the region, which have been linked to health risks and several fatalities.

Speaking after the operation, NACADA officials reiterated their commitment to ridding communities of harmful and illicit alcoholic products, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas where regulatory breaches are more common.

“This operation is part of a broader national crackdown aimed at dismantling illegal alcohol networks and protecting the public from dangerous, unregulated substances,” said Mr. Kosgei.

The suspect is currently in police custody and is expected to face charges related to the possession and sale of counterfeit alcohol.

Authorities have warned bar owners and distributors to comply with licensing regulations or face legal consequences as the crackdown intensifies.
