Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has announced plans by the opposition to hold an emergency meeting to deliberate on the ‘state of the nation’ following the alleged abduction of Juja MP George Koimburi.
In a statement issued on Monday, May 26, Kalonzo disclosed that the meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 27, and will focus on an alarming trend of political intimidation under the Kenya Kwanza administration.
“The Opposition is convening tomorrow to assess the current state of political harassment and intimidation in the country by the Kenya Kwanza regime,” Kalonzo stated.
His comments follow reports that Koimburi was allegedly abducted on Sunday in full view of a church congregation during a service.
Less than 24 hours later, Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa claimed the MP had been forcibly taken into a Subaru vehicle by unidentified individuals.
Koimburi was later reportedly found at Jacaranda Coffee Plantation in the Kibichoi area of Ruiru, Kiambu County.
Footage that has since surfaced shows the MP in visible pain, prompting public concern over possible torture during his disappearance.
Kalonzo strongly condemned the alleged abduction, warning that if such an incident could happen to an elected leader, ordinary citizens were even more vulnerable.
“If an MP who is entitled to security gets abducted in broad daylight, it means Kenyans are on their own,” he said.
While details remain scarce regarding the attendees of the upcoming meeting, it is widely expected that key opposition figures such as People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua may be present.
