A huge fire on Tuesday morning destroyed a dormitory at Nyambaria Boys High School in Nyamira County, leaving 380 students without personal belongings.
The fire broke out around 4 am when students had already left for early morning prep. No injuries were reported, as investigations continue to determine the cause of the fire.
Efforts by the Nyamira County fire brigade to contain the blaze were not successful, and the entire dormitory was reduced to ashes. The dormitory is located near the school kitchen, but the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Nyambaria Boys is one of the top-performing schools in Nyamira County and gained national recognition after topping the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.
