Authorities have launched a manhunt for a group of individuals linked to the death of Justus Omoni, 48, who was allegedly assaulted in Nyatieko village, Kisii County.
The group, believed to be part of a local community policing unit, reportedly intervened in a domestic dispute between Omoni and his wife on May 27. The argument stemmed from a disagreement over a newly erected structure within their compound.
Police reports indicate that members of the group arrived to mediate but instead tied up and brutally beat Omoni. They later abandoned him, unconscious, in a nearby school compound.
His family found him at the scene and took him home, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Police responded to the incident and transported Omoni’s body to the mortuary for a postmortem examination. Investigators have intensified efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible.
Authorities have condemned the rise in mob justice in the region, reiterating that such acts are criminal. They are urging communities to surrender suspects to law enforcement agencies rather than take the law into their own hands.
In a separate incident, a dispute over control of a water vending shed in Kariobangi, Nairobi, turned violent, leaving a 27-year-old man dead.
Elvis Owino Oloo died after sustaining severe injuries during a clash with a group of men allegedly fighting for dominance over the facility. The main suspect fled the scene and remains at large.
Police have moved Oloo’s body to the mortuary pending an autopsy and further investigations. A search for the suspect continues.
