Detectives have arrested a close ally of Juja MP George Koimburi who they believe has a case to answer in the alleged abduction of the MP.

Cyrus Kieru Muhia, the owner of the Subaru Forester believed to have been used to execute the alleged abduction was arrested by the officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and he is being held at its Headquarters in Nairobi.

Confirming the arrest, Police Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga said: “He is the owner of a Subaru Forester which is alleged to have blocked Hon. Koimburi leading to the latter’s purported abduction.”

He said Mr Muhia was being questioned to shed light on what “his role was in the whole matter.”

Mr Koimburi was allegedly abducted outside a church at Mugutha, Kiambu County, on Sunday.

He was later found dumped at a coffee plantation in Kiambu on Monday.

Video footage, which the DCI has been investigating for its authenticity, showed Koimburi being driven away in a silver Subaru Forester bearing civilian registration plates.

In a statement on Tuesday 28th May, 2025, Inspector General of Police Doughlas Kanja said preliminary investigations into the alleged abduction of Koimburi have revealed inconsistencies. Kanja said a visit to the supposed scene of the incident showed it didn’t match the location seen in circulating videos; five individuals have already been questioned.

During a press briefing Kanja announced that the case is under investigation to uncover the truth surrounding the alleged abduction.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has urged a parliamentary investigation into the alleged Kidnapping and torture of Koimburi.

Earlier, opposition leaders led by Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka visited Koimburi at Karen Hospital, strongly rejecting suggestions that the MP staged his own abduction.
