The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed the arrest of Grace Nduta Wairimu, the Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Kanyenya-ini ward in Murang’a County, over a shocking twist in what is now being termed a stage-managed abduction.
Wairimu was taken into custody today, May 29, 2025, following reports that she faked her own disappearance in a ploy allegedly involving Gatundu South’s controversial political figure, George Koimburi.
According to an official statement from the DCI, the arrest follows thorough investigations into events surrounding May 25, when Wairimu claimed she had been abducted while on her way to a church service in Kangema.
However, the plot unraveled after investigators unearthed CCTV footage and witness testimonies placing both Wairimu and Koimburi at Ellis Bar and Restaurant in Kiganjo, Gatundu South — not in Kangema, as she had claimed.
“Evidence clearly shows that she was at the Ellis Bar and Restaurant with Hon. George Koimburi the entire night,” the DCI stated, effectively dismantling her alibi involving church services and political rallies.
The DCI also dismissed social media reports alleging that the MCA had been abducted.
“We wish to confirm that the MCA was arrested today, May 29, 2025, as part of an ongoing investigation into the stage-managed abduction of Hon. George Koimburi. It has been confirmed that, despite her claims of being in Kangema and attending church services and political rallies on May 25, 2025, evidence clearly shows that she was in Kiganjo, Gatundu South, with Hon. George Koimburi the entire night,” the statement read.
Koimburi is still admitted at Karen Hospital in Nairobi following the alleged abduction incident.
The arrest of the MCA brings the total number of suspects in the Koimburi “self-abduction” case to four. Three other suspects were arrested on Wednesday, recorded statements, and provided crucial leads.
