A man has turned himself in at a local police station, confessing to the murder of his 85-year-old grandmother in Diere village, Ugenya, Siaya County. The suspect claimed that his grandmother, identified as Jennifer Aduor Aoko, practised witchcraft, which led him to kill her. Officers who visited the scene found the elderly woman’s body lying in a pool of blood.
Police recovered a bloodstained spade believed to have been used in the fatal attack. The suspect lived with the deceased, and the incident reportedly occurred on May 28. The body was moved to the mortuary for an autopsy and further investigations.
Meanwhile, in Meru County, a pillion passenger was shot dead in an ambush along the Ndumuru-Mea road. The victim, identified as Moses Gikundi, was travelling to Mea with a rider and another passenger when gunmen opened fire near Kaleso Nyange area on the night of May 27.
The rider managed to escape with one passenger, while Gikundi fell off the motorcycle, succumbing to a bullet wound to the chest. Nothing was stolen from him during the attack. Police visited the scene the following day and found Gikundi’s body lying by the roadside. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear.
Elsewhere, in Kaptalamwa, Elgeyo Marakwet County, 26-year-old Titus Kosgei Maiyo was found dead following a violent confrontation over a love triangle. The assailant, who allegedly hacked Maiyo to death, fled the scene, and police are pursuing him for questioning. The body was transported to the mortuary pending an autopsy and further inquiries.
