President William Ruto has announced that the government will unveil a new payment option dubbed ‘Lipa SHA Polepole’, allowing Kenyans to pay their Social Health Authority (SHA) premiums in flexible installments.
Speaking during the 62nd Madaraka Day celebrations in Homa Bay County, the President said the initiative will enable citizens to settle their annual contributions gradually whether monthly, weekly, or even daily based on their financial capacity.
”To address persistent challenges such as irregular premium payments, especially among the informal sector, the government of Kenya is introducing an inclusive payment solution known as lipa SHA polepole,” Ruto announced.
According to the Head of State, the new directive will enable families to make payments in installments based on their preference plan.
”This initiative will enable Kenyans to remit their annual SHA contributions through flexible, manageable installments, whether monthly, weekly, or even daily, based on their financial abilities,” he added.
He added that the new payment plan has been made possible through a partnership between the Ministries of Health, Cooperatives, financial and mobile network providers through the Hustler Fund.
The president further discusses on the simplicity and accessibility of the new Lipa SHA Polepole innovation by dialing *417#, following the prompt, enrollment and making contributions.
Finally in his statement, he prioritized the availability of essential medical equipment in public health sectors and adopting the National Equipment Supply Programme which collaborates the National Assembly and County government to provide efficient medical equipment.
