After sharing the Madaraka Day stage in Homa Bay, Siaya Governor James Orengo and county leaders are set to meet President Ruto for breakfast at Statehouse Nairobi on Thursday, signaling renewed cooperation after earlier tensions.
According to sources, Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi played a crucial role in setting up the breakfast meeting in which Siaya County leaders are expected to submit key projects the want Ruto’s government to facilitate and help fast-track their implementation.
Orengo who has been a staunch ODM supporter is expected to champion for the county’s development projects especially as some leaders in Siaya feel the county has continued to lag behind compared with its peers in the region.
This meeting comes a short while after President Ruto’s Nyanza tour where he launched a number of development projects spanning from road upgrades and affordable housing units in Homa Bay county, agriculture and blue economy projects in Kisumu among others.
Several leaders are optimist of the newly forged partnership between President Ruto and Governor Orengo hailing it as the best way to move forward in unlocking opportunities and progress of the region.
“Development does not happen where there is division. We will go to the meeting as one people,” said Oburu Odinga, Siaya Senator ahead of the meeting.
Despite the economic and development benefits expected as a result of this meeting, it is also expected to serve as an opportunity for broader political realignment incorporating a key figure in Luo Nyanza into the broad based government formed between President Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. It also expected to bridge political divide therefore easing tensions between the President and ODM leaders from Siaya
