Joseph Maina Muciiri popularly known as Kapedo Photography shares his story on how he has climbed up the ladder to being one of Kenya’s most sort after Photographer due to his signature poses.

Kapedo a form 2 drop out ,raised by a single mother now identifies among Kenya’s top photographers.

Kapedo in an interview with Dr.King’ori shared his struggles with poverty while growing up which led to him deciding to drop out of school and moved out just to ease the burden and stress for his mother.

He tried doing jobs in hotels such as washing dishes and cleaning to try and raise money to sustain him while living alone.

He transitioned into trying to pursue being a DJ but also quit on the first day since he realised it wasn’t something he was passionate about. After that his mother sourced out twenty five thousand for him to come to Nairobi , then he resorted to selling second hand clothes from Gikomba and later he became a poet at Churchill show.

Kapedo has really hustled in Nairobi trying to sustain himself he worked as a carrier boy for goods, washed trenches and sold maize while juggling different places to sleep.

He started photography with his friends camera which earned him KSh 3500 on the first day and he became eager to learn more about photography. However his friend came and picked his camera a situation that forced him to go back home to his mother with a crushed spirit.

His mother was forced to sell a piece of her land, and gave him to come back to Nairobi so he can buy a camera to continue with his photography dream.

Kapedo’s biggest breakthrough came when he started serving in church under Pastor T who spoke life in him and affirmed in such a powerful way and made him walk in rooms of greatness.

Kapedo says that having a “dream and a vision is what takes a person from where they are to where they are going and they can only grow as far as you have expanded your mindset”.
