Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on Wednesday, May 4, 2025, held a meeting with Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire and County Assembly Majority Leader Peter Muriithi at his Karen residence, amid growing speculation of a political rift between the two over the 2027 succession.
The meeting came just hours after Kindiki hosted a separate session at the same venue with Embu County Senator Alexander Mundigi, Woman Representative Njoki Njeru, MPs Eric Muchangi (Runyenjes), Eng. Nebart Muriuki (Mbeere South), and Public Service CS Geoffrey Ruku. Notably absent from the earlier meeting was Governor Mbarire, further fueling rumours of tensions.
In a post on his X account, Kindiki said the Wednesday discussions focused on reviewing national government projects in Embu and strengthening key agricultural value chains, including tea, coffee, macadamia, milk, and Catha edulis (muguka).
The political tension comes just days after Mbarire publicly criticized unnamed senior government officials during Madaraka Day celebrations at Makima Primary School claiming that convened a secret night meetings aimed at influencing Embu’s political future without involving her.
