The National Assembly’s Departmental Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs has approved the nomination of Erastus Edung Ethekon as Chairperson and six others as Members of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), paving the way for the reconstitution of the electoral body.
The committee, in its official report tabled in Parliament, confirmed that all seven nominees met the required constitutional, statutory, and ethical standards. The approval followed a vetting process held on May 31, 2025, after the High Court lifted an earlier suspension that had temporarily halted the exercise.
Those approved for appointment include: Erastus Edung Ethekon as chairperson. Others are Ann Njeri Nderitu, Moses Alutalala Mukhwana, Mary Karen Sorobit, Hassan Noor Hassan, Francis Odhiambo Aduol, and Fahima Araphat Abdallah as commissioners.
The committee noted that the composition of the nominees complies with the constitutional requirements on gender, regional, and ethnic representation.
The final decision now awaits approval by the commitee of the whole house.
