The Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Dr. Ouma Oluga, has shed light on the newly introduced Lipa SHA Pole Pole initiative. This initiative was launched by SHA’s new chief executive Dr Mercy Mwangangi, during her official inauguration following President Ruto’s announcement during Madaraka Day celebration in Homa Bay.
According to the government, this new flexible health insurance contribution model targets low income earning Kenyans to ensure they too can access quality healthcare without having to follow fixed SHA contribution systems.
Dr. Oluga emphasized that the government’s goal is to leave no one behind, particularly targeting citizens with low or irregular earnings who often face barriers when enrolling in traditional health coverage systems.
“Lipa SHA Pole Pole is tailored for Kenyans with unpredictable income streams. This platform allows them to make manageable, incremental contributions, so they’re not locked out of accessing healthcare services,” said Dr. Oluga.
To enroll in ‘Lipa SHA Pole Pole’ scheme, Medical Services PS advised Kenyans to simply dial *147# on their phones. From the menu that appears, they should select the Lipa Pole Pole option to begin their registration and contribution process.
The initiative is part of broader health sector reforms aimed at expanding Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and ensuring that all Kenyans, regardless of socio-economic status, have the opportunity to live healthier lives.
