According to Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS) Salim Mvurya, Kenya is on course to co-hosting a historical African Nations Championship (CHAN) in 2025 and the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2027.
The CS who led a parliamentary committee on a stadia inspection tour expressed his satisfaction with the progress of Kenya’s key stadia set to co-host the continental showpieces.
The delegation toured Talanta Sports City, a multimillion project expected to be completed by December 2025.

During his long day sports facilities tour the CS and his delegation also toured Nyayo and Kasarani stadiums both of which he confirmed are ready and up to CAF standards.

Mvurya’s ‘ready remarks’ come amid uncertainty among Kenyans about the quality and readiness of the selected venues for the tournaments. Since the postponement of CHAN from February to August this year, several CAF officials have been in the country to asses the readiness of Kenya, majority have flagged off the state of our stadium with fears growing among football fans whether the country will be ready in time.
”From the onset, the tour was a showcase of the hard work and dedication the Ministry of Sports has put towards the completion of Talanta City by December 2025, the renovations and upgrades of Nyayo and Kasarani stadiums which are now complete,” said the CS. “I can say without hesitation that Kenya is ready to host CHAN 2025. And with the current momentum, AFCON 2027 is not just a possibility—it’s a promise we are on track to deliver.”
The CS also highlighted the importance the Ministry of Defence has played in ensuring compliance with CAF measures.Parliamentary Committee Chair Hon. Dan Wanyama, who led the committee during the tour, also expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of the work.

The CS noted that Talanta Sports City will serve as a key legacy project for the country and a symbol of Kenya’s readiness to host major international events. “With the current momentum, AFCON 2027 is not just a possibility—it’s a promise we are on track to deliver,” he affirmed.

The visit marks a significant milestone in Kenya’s efforts to reclaim its place on the continental sporting stage after past setbacks. With political support, infrastructural progress, and institutional collaboration aligned, the country appears poised for a successful hosting of both CHAN 2025 and AFCON 2027.
