National police service officers in Elgeyo Marakwet county have retrieved 10 cows which had been stolen in Endo location, same county. This follows a coordinated, intelligence-led operation by officers from NPS on 10th June 2024.
The government in the recent past has intensified efforts of combating cattle rustling with increased number of cattles retrieved signifying the drop in cattles rustle cases.
According to a police statement the livestock were located in Tigit after a succesfull operation before they were handed back to their rightful owners.
“The livestock were traced and retrieved from Tigit Village in Masol Location, Pokot Central Sub-County, in a swift response by law enforcement authorities acting on credible intelligence.”part of the statement declared.
Volatile border regions between Elgeyo Marakwet and West Pokot counties have become easy target spots for cattle rustlers despite security officers being deployed in the region.
Upon getting them back the police handed them over to their owners I prewnec of chief Kowow Sub-Location.
“The livestock were retrieved from Tigit Village, Masol Location, Pokot Central Sub-County, and subsequently handed back to their rightful owners in the presence of the Chief of Kowow Sub-Location, ” read part of the statement.
The police lauded effectiveness of community-centered policing and intelligence-sharing mechanisms as they call for continued vigilance and cooperation between residents and security personnel to ensure lasting peace and stability in the region.
“National Police Service reaffirms its commitment to combating cattle rustling and related crimes through enhanced intelligence gathering, timely response operations, and strengthened collaboration with local communities and security agencies, ” NPS stated.
