Police Constable James Mukhwana (Service No. 260950) of Central Police station in Nairobi has been arrested by officers from the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) and the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) following days of investigation into the controversial custodial death of blogger Albert Ojwang’‎‎

According to a public memo referenced KPS/DIG/NRB/KIL/CAP/ADM/38/VOL.1/02,Mukhwana who is currently being held at Capitol Hill Police Station will be charged with murder.

‎‎”Please be informed that James Mukhwana of Central Police Sation Nairobi was arrested today 12/06/2025 and placed in police custody at Capitol Hill Police Station,” part of the statement read “he is to be charged with the offence of murder contrary to Section 203 as read with Section 204 of the Penal Code following the death of one Albert Ojwang.”‎‎

Ojwang died under controversial circumstances at Nairobi’s central Police station after a team of 5 police officers had picked him from Home Bay.

‎His death sparked outrage among Kenyans, human rights activists and political leaders who condemned the act and called on swift and decisive action by the government to ensure justice is served.‎‎

This was followed by appearing of Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen, DCI boss Amin Mohammed, Inspector General of police Douglas Kanja and his two deputies Gilbert Masengeli and Eliud Lagat before the Senate and National Assembly to answer questions on the mysterious death of Ojwang. ‎‎

While in the Senate and National Assembly the top security bosses along with IPOA emphasized the need for ensuring the killer(s) of Ojwang is/are brought to Justice.

‎‎President William Ruto, ODM leader Raila Odinga among other high ranking politicians mourned the death of Ojwang emphasizing the need for accountability by The National a Police Service.
