Kapsabet Police Station officers have arrested a suspect and seized 240 litres of chang’aa in Surungai area Nandi County. According to the police this was part of a targeted ongoing joint operation with the National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) to crack down on illicit brew in the area.

‎‎“Officers arrested one suspect found in possession of 240 litres of chang’aa concealed in a 50kg blue sack.” Read a police report.

‎‎The suspect is expected to be arraigned in court today 13th June 2025 following immediately being taken into custody and transporting to Kapsabet Police Station for processing.‎‎

Meanwhile The National Police Service (NPS) issued a tough warning on illicit brew dealers insisting it’s commitment to fighting the menace.

“The National Police Service reiterates its unwavering commitment to working closely with other government agencies in ongoing efforts to eradicate illicit brew.”‎‎

The government over the past months has mainly been conducting crackdown on manufacturers, distributors and banning consumption of chang’aa among other outlawed substances especially in Mount Kenya region where this menace has been rampant but the shift to other regions too symbolizes a national effort to curb illicit brews countrywide.‎‎

The police have encouraged community members to remain vigilant and report any activities related to illegal brews to support continued enforcement efforts.‎
