Gor Mahia were dealt a blow in their pursuit of a record extending 22nd FKF Premier League title after a 1-1 home draw in a Madaraka day Mashemeji derby against their eternal rivals AFC Leopards at Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay. The result now means table toppers, Kenya Police only need a point in their remaining two matches against Shabana which they play at home on Sunday 15th June and Gor Mahia themselves away on 22nd June which also happens to be the final matchday of this season’s FKF Premier League.

“However slim it might look we are still in contention as we still have two league matches to go so we are taking each game at a time and in football anything is possible,” remarked Zico.

If Shabana takes home all the three points on Sunday, then it will be in Gor’s hands to decide their own fate this season as 22nd June will pit two of the best teams this season in a winners takes it home game.

On his part, Police’s coach Etienne Ndayiragije, has warned of any laxity among his players insisting the remaining two matches are all tough games and must be approached with caution especially as Shabana is aiming to finish the season in the top three

“We will approach the game with a lot of caution, knowing that this is football and anything can happen, we will talk about the title after the game, and remember we still have another remaining game against Gor Mahia,” said Etienne Ndayiragije.

If Police Fc end Gor Mahia’s league dominance and clinch the title, they will join a few elite Kenyan Clubs who have had a chance of representing the country at Africa’s premier football club competition, the CAF Champions League, although they will have to go through play offs matches first.
