Nandi County Governor, Stephen Sang has warned opposition leaders against politicizing influencer Albert Ojwang’s controversial custodial death and allow investigative agencies to conduct thorough and independent investigations.

Sang’s remarks come amid public outrage and lack of trust in the investigations being conducted. Earlier on, DCP Party Leader, Rigathi Gachagua had called on international community’s intervention into the matter citing cover-up by investigative agencies dealing with Ojwang’s case.

Gachagua in a strongly worded address called on the prosecution of Directorate of Criminal Investigations boss, Amin Mohammed, and the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Eliud Lagat as part of the accountability measures in relation to Ojwang’.

In response, Governor Sang emphasized the need to uphold due process and avoid turning the tragic incident into a political battleground.

“Let us believe in the rule of law, when an incident has happened let us allow the independent institutions run the processes including the unfortunate murder of Albert Ojwang,” he said, ” let us not victimize communities and professionals on account of perceptions.”

Sang’s remarks come amid contradicting reports by IPOA to the previous one by the police. According to IPOA, Ojwang’s unfortunate death occurred before he was rushed to Mbagathi hospital at night. This has only intensified the opposition and human rights push for resignation of Deputy Inspector General of police, Eliud Lagat
