Jonah Kariuki the father to Boniface Kariuki a mask vendor who was shot during Tuesday’s demonstrations says his son is not doing well.
Speaking to Nation FM via phone call Friday morning, Jonah said he was able to visit his son at the Kenyatta National Hospital Thursday evening before he went into theatre for a second surgery and he affirms that he looked critical.
”Jioni tulienda huko (KNH) tukakaa huko alikuwa anapelekwa theatre, lakini nilimwona hayuko mahali pazuri vile” Johan said
Jonah says he has not recorded any statement concerning his son’s shooting though he clarifies that he received a phone call on Thursday from an OCS who he did not name and asked for his National Identification Number. He also requested that he should present himself to write the statement but he was not able to because he was with his son who is admitted at KNH.
”Nilipigiwa simu jana (Thursday) na OCS akaniuliza namba yangu ya kitambulisho na akaniambia niende nirecord statement lakini sikuweza” He said
Boniface underwent a second surgery at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) in what the doctors said was the procedure is to try and create a space around the skull to prevent the swelling
On Tuesday KNH Chief Executive Officer Dr. William Sigilai confirmed that Kariuki was on mechanical ventilation .
He first underwent surgery on Tuesday night, during which doctors successfully removed the bullet r in a delicate operation two-hour operation.
Kariuki was shot during protests in Nairobi demanding the resignation of Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat following the death of teacher and blogger Albert Ojwang’.
