‎Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has dismissed claims circulating online that June 25th, 2025, will be observed as a public holiday. Hosted by Radio 47’s Alex Mwakideu and Emmanuel Mwashumbe on a morning breakfast show, Mwaura reaffirmed the government’s position of maintaining law and order claiming the planned protests are politically motivated actions disguised as peaceful protests.

“The government has stood its ground that Wednesday 25th June is a working day and there will be no protests on that day,” Isaac Mwaura has stated.

The Government’s spokesperson noted that security forces will be deployed purely to carry out their constitutional mandate to protect citizens and maintain public order.

While he admitted that every citizen has a right to demonstrate, he criticized the planned Wednesday demonstrations citing past protests which he allege have often been used as a political front to rebel against the government, bring chaos and promote burglaries.

“This protest is not a peaceful demonstration. It is a rebellion against the government filled with chaos and burglaries,” Isaac Mwaura said.

Citing past protests, Mwaura lamented the often confrontational nature of such events, describing them as frequent clashes between demonstrators and the police. He noted that officers are often subjected to verbal abuse and provocation, a trend he deemed unacceptable.

In reference to the protests held on Tuesday 17th June, the Spokesperson condemned the acts of armed goons reaffirming the government’s effort of protecting all its citizens and dealing with any group that posses threat to the public.

Mwaura also responded to the symbolic actions by Gen-Z protestors particularly the planned the laying of flowers outside Parliament.

“Parliament has no graves to be laid with flowers,” Mwaura remarked downplaying the gesture and rejecting its perceived significance.

The Government’s warning comes just two days to the highly anticipated nationwide protests with opposition leaders led by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, DCP Party leader Rigathi Gachagua and former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i expected to lead the charge in commemorating the 2024 antifinance bill victims.

In recent days cases of extrajudicial killings and abductions as a result of youth protests have escalated prompting human rights activist calling for accountability especially in the security agencies.
