The government has vowed that it will stand with the National Police Service as they discharge their mandate of enforcing law and order in the country.
President William Ruto has said the police have a duty to secure the nation and protect the lives and property of Kenyans.
He said no criminal will be allowed to use force against the police to undermine and intimidate them, noting that this undermines the security of the nation.
He reminded Kenyans that no one is above the law.
“Our security men and women deserve every support that we can muster for them to secure our nation,” he said.
“To every police officer, I give you my assurance that the government of Kenya will support you, stand by you as you secure our nation and keep our families and property safe,” he added.
He spoke during a breakfast meeting with Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League champions at State House, Nairobi.
Kenya Police FC and Kenya Police Bullets were the 2025 champions.
Cabinet Secretaries Kipchumba Murkomen (Interior), Salim Mvurya (Sports), and Hassan Ali Joho (Blue Economy), as well as Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, were present.
The President called on Kenyans to respect and support the police to ensure they secure the country.
He said the country has sufficient infrastructure to ensure that police conduct their mandate within the law.
“Without peace, security and stability, we don’t have a nation,” he added.
The President said the government is making steady progress in improving the terms of service for police officers.
He noted that 20 per cent of affordable housing is allocated to policemen and women.
“I have taken the firm position that we must look after our policemen and women as they look after our families, property and securing our nation,” he said.
The President congratulated Kenya Police FC and Kenya Police Bullets for winning the 2025 championship.
President Ruto pledged that the government will continue improving sports infrastructure in the country to support sports development.
“We will continue to dedicate resources to make sure we build the infrastructure that will support the great talents that we have in sports,” he said.
President Ruto pointed out that the government is building the largest football stadium in Kenya and the region, which will be completed by December this year.
He said he made a decision that the sports funds will be used solely to support sports development in the country.
He said the government is developing 37 sports academies across the country.
The President appealed to companies and philanthropic organisations to step up and support sports teams from the grassroots to nurture talents nationwide.
Mr Murkomen said the government is committed to supporting policemen and women to maintain law and order.
The Interior Cabinet Secretary noted that there is a section of ill-intentioned persons using protests to cause chaos and destruction of property without a valid good reason.
He said it was unfortunate that some youth are being used by political actors to advance their cause.
“The National Police Service must be ruthless in dealing with such criminals because we want this country to be a country of law and order, not a country of chaos, so that all of us can thrive,” he said.
The Inspector General said the Kenya Police Service is committed to ensuring the country is safe and secure despite the many challenges it faces.
He echoed President Ruto’s remarks, saying the leadership of the police will stand with officers and support them to do their job.
“I want to assure them that we stand with them, we support them, we want them to execute their mandate to ensure that our country remains safe,” he said.
Mr Murkomen noted that Kenya Police is the most professional police service on the continent.
The Interior Cabinet Secretary congratulated the Kenya Police FC team for winning the championship league for the first time ever.
“Literally, there is a new sheriff in town,” he said.
Mr Mvurya said the government will support the FKF Premier League to strengthen its capability to nurture talents.
To expand avenues of nurturing talent, he said the government will also launch the President’s Cup, which will run from the grassroots.
