Another suspect has died in police custody in Turasha Police Station in Nyandarua County.

According to a police report the deceased, 44-year-old Ruigi Ndubi, was arrested for allegedly obstructing police officers performing their duties, with police saying he appeared intoxicated during the arrest.

The suspect was later found dead in his cell with police officers saying he allegedly died by suicide.

Police say, during a routine check at 12:46 p.m., an officer discovered the suspect dead inside the cell. It claims that he hanged himself with his shirt, which was tied to the padlock on the inner cell door.

However, his family i is demanding a thorough investigation and justice following the death of their relative, casting doubt on the suicide claims by the police.

Nyandarua County Commissioner Abdirisack Jaldesa confirmed that investigations are ongoing and urged the public to remain calm.

“The government is doing everything possible to unearth what really transpired. We ask the public to give us time and remain peaceful as the investigation proceeds,” said Commissioner Jaldesa.

According to his relatives, Ndubi was discovered with his knees touching the ground, an unusual position for a hanging, casting doubt on the claim that he committed suicide.

Leaders led by Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia have condemned what they described as a worrying rise in police brutality and called on the national government to take urgent action.

“We are appealing to the President to protect Kenyans. It’s unacceptable that those meant to ensure our safety have become the biggest threat,” Muhia said.

She also raised concerns over the planned postmortem, vowing to oppose any rushed process that lacks full transparency in determining the cause of death.

This is the second suspect to die in police custody this month alone, raising serious questions about the safety of Kenyans in police hands.
