Police lobed teargas to disperse porters in Nairobi’s Central Business District CBD.

Thousands of protesters have flocked the streets of Nairobi for the June 25th Anniversary Protests even with the heavy security presence.

Protesters sang the National Anthem, along the streets with others attempting to get their way to Central Police Station where teacher and blogger Albert Ojwang’ died.

Police were forced to use tear gas to disperse the crowd with some protesters displaying what they said is a live bullet fired by the officers.

Family members of the Gen-Z who died during the anti-Finance Bill Protest in 2024 joined the protests.

This even as tension remained high in several parts of the city and the country following the protests. Along Thika Road, it was running battles between the police and protesters, who had barricaded the road with stones, with police using tear gas to disperse the crowd.

Along Waiyaki Way, vehicles were turned away at Kangemi, and no PSVs were allowed into the city.

At Pangani, passengers who were headed to town from Kiambu and Thika were forced to walk into the city as no vehicles were allowed.

The town remained deserted as many city dwellers feared for their safety following protests that have been marred by chaos in the recent past.
