Labour and Social Protection, Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua, flagged off the first cohort of 50 young Kenyans to Russia for employment under a migration program supported by the Kenyan Government.

The CS revealed the youths will each earn Ksh 115,000 monthly, with free housing and meals provided.

‎Mutua who revealed the individuals recounted how they had stayed at home without income for a long time and were grateful for this opportunity, urged them to bank their earnings in Kenya.

“I urge them to bank their earnings every month in Kenya so that they have good savings for their future,” he said.

‎The CS also confirmed that the initiative is supported by the Uwezo Fund, which covered travel and service fees for the group. He however noted that once they start work, they will repay the government’s loan in manageable installments.

“Uwezo Fund was able to provide them with monies for tickets and the service fee, and they did not have to come up with any personal money. Once they start work, they will slowly refund the Government loan over a short period so that others can benefit from the funds.” he said.

Upon their arrival in Moscow,‎ they were received by officials from the Kenyan Embassy. Today, they will be hosted by the Kenyan Ambassador to Russia, Hon. Amb. Peter Mathuki.
