Busia County has secured a major partnership with the St. Petersburg Football Federation of Russia aiming at improving football talent especially at grassroots level
Busia Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo, through her official X account confirmed the partnership stating it will open doors to many talented young footballers in the Western Kenya County.
“Through this collaboration, we will host friendly matches and open new doors for nurturing football talents,” said Omanyo. “International recruiters and professional trainers from Russia will join our coaches annually to build capacity and grow the game.”
Omanyo also reiterated the local players who in the recent past have struggled to access quality services will now enjoy scholarships under the landmark partnership.
“Talented players from Busia will benefit from scholarships,” she added.
Despite producing top Kenyan footballers like Victor Wanyama and his brother McDonald Mariga, who is also the current Vice President of the Kenyan Football Federation, Busia County has long lagged behind in football infrastructure evidenced by a lack of a modern sports facility in the County.
This has hindered talent growth and even led to may youths ending up not living up to their dreams in terms of sports. This partnership is seen as a major step toward changing that narrative.
