Christ Is The Answer Ministries (CITAM) valley road has faced public backlash following claims that the church turned away peaceful protestors who sought refuge during the 25th June demonstrations.

The protests, marking the anniversary of a major demonstration against a tax plan, resulted in at least 16 deaths according to Amnesty Kenya. Social media posts have circulated expressing disappointment and criticism towards CITAM for not providing shelter, highlighting a perceived disconnect between the church’s actions and its teachings.

As chaos erupted in parts of the city and police cracked down on demonstrators firing teargas and live bullets messages circulated on social media urging stranded protestors to seek refuge at CITAM valley road. The church is known for its large premises and central location was seen by many as a safe heaven for those fleeing escalating violence.

However conflicting reports emerged later in the day alleging that the young protestors arrived at the gates and they were denied entry.

“They locked gates on us.They saw people running for their lives and still turned them away.”one X user posted.

“What CITAM Valley Road church did is very uncouth, why do that to the people you pray for,you have just made Kenyans to thing that Cash is the Answer Ministry (CITAM) is your real name,no humanity.”Senator Omtatah agreed together with the people.

The claims have not been officially addressed by CITAM, and the backlash was swift and intense. Critics accused the church of abandoning its spiritual and humanitarian mission at a critical moment.
