Immediate former Teachers Service Commission TSC Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia, has declined her nomination by Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata to serve as Chairperson of the Murang’a County Public Service Board.
In a letter, addressed to Governor Kang’ata, Dr. Macharia said she has received another offer from an international organization. The letter was submitted just a day before she was scheduled for vetting on Friday.
“I hereby thank you for nominating me for the Chair of the Murang’a County Public Service Board. However, I decline the post as I have received another offer from an international body, which, in my opinion, could affect my performance in the said role,” Macharia wrote
She further explained that she had realized the position would require a full-time commitment, whereas she had hoped for a part-time engagement.
Governor Kang’ata had nominated Dr. Macharia alongside Dr. Louis Mwende Musikali, Johnson Kang’ethe Kinyua, and Dr. Brian Lishenga Makamu as members of the Board. Oscar Kimani Gathura was nominated as Secretary to the Board. The nomination of Dr. Macharia came shortly after her tenure at TSC was set to conclude on June 30, 2025.
Macharia was appointed as TSC, CEO in June 2015, Dr Macharia made history as the first woman to lead the Commission since its establishment. She succeeded Gabriel Lengoiboni, who held the position for 11 years.
She was the 9th Commission Secretary/Chief Executive Officer after Mr Jesse Muhoro (1967 to 1974), James Kamunge (1974 to 1977), Duncan Mwangi (1978 to 1980), Joseph Lijembe (1980 to 1982), Jackson Kang’ali (1982 to 1998), Benjamin Sogomo (1998 to 2003), James Ongwae (2003 to 2004) and Gabriel K Lengoiboni.
