Over 7,300 bags of fertilizer valued at more than KSh 29.5 million were looted from the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) depot in Maua, Meru County during the June 25, 2025 protests.

In a press statement, Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe condemned the act as an attack on Kenya’s food security, warning that the looted fertilizer was meant for farmers during the planting season.

“Those who rob, destroy, and loot critical public installations are not demonstrators they are criminals and anarchists, and they must be treated as such,” Kagwe said.

The ministry urged the National Police Service to act swiftly to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators, recover the stolen fertilizer, and protect national food supplies.
