The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) has documented widespread human rights violations during the June 25, 2025, anti-government protests, reporting 19 deaths, 531 injuries, and 179 arrests nationwide.
In a preliminary update released on Friday 27, 2025, the commission also recorded 15 enforced disappearances, as well as serious sexual violence, including two cases of individual rape, two of gang rape, and one attempted gang rape.
The demonstrations, largely driven by youth opposition to the controversial Finance Bill, turned violent in multiple parts of the country, prompting concerns over excessive use of force by security agencies.
KNCHR strongly condemned all human rights violations and called for accountability from all responsible parties. “We once again send our message of condolence to those who lost their loved ones and wish a quick recovery to those nursing injuries,” the statement read.
The commission urged members of the public with information or concerns regarding human rights abuses during the protests to report via SMS to 22359, email (complaint@knchr.org), or toll-free line 0800 720 627.
A more comprehensive report is expected to be released at a later date.
