National Police officers based at Kangeta Police Station in Igembe North, Meru County, have retrieved a total of twelve head of cattle that had been stolen and hidden in the bush within Ndumuru area.
According to a National Police Service statement, NPS officers were conducting a patrol on June 28 2025 following a June 26th 2025 report of stolen livestock that had been made at Kabete Police Station.
“Following a report made on 26 June 2025 at Kangeta Police Station regarding the theft of livestock, police officers on patrol yesterday, 28 June 2025, successfully recovered twelve head of cattle hidden in the bush within Ndumuru area,” part of the NPS statement read.
The National Police Service also reveals that the animals were escorted back to their rightful owners in Bullow area in Igembe North after the recovery.
Although authorities didn’t confirm any arrest in connection to the recovered livestock, they reaffirmed the NPS’s commitment to tackling cattle rustling.
“The National Police Service (NPS) remains committed to safeguarding lives and property by working closely with communities to curb incidents of cattle rustling and related crimes.”
Despite security agencies efforts to curb the persistent banditry and cattle rustling incidents, Igembe North has proved to be a difficult area to restore normalcy characterized by recent cases of such attacks, the most recent example being a 10-hour gun battle and the theft of over 150 cattle in Ngaathu, Igembe North.
In March also, over 200 stolen livestock were recovered by police officers in Ngitatu, Igembe North highlighting the seriousness of security in this region.
