National police officers in Igembe South, Meru County have arrested a total of 8 suspects in an intelligence-led operation by law enforcement officers as part of the ongoing countrywide crackdown on June 25th 2025 protests’ looters. Through a Directorate of Criminal Investigations statement, the police have also confirmed recovery of 63 bags of stolen government fertiliser.
According to the DCI, the suspects were nabbed during coordinated raids in Luluma Village, Makiri area, and Maua Township, targeting individuals linked to looting during the June 25, 2025, demonstrations.
“The operation also led to the seizure of one motor vehicle, a silver Probox registration number KCW 822T and three motorcycles: KMFS 106Q, KMFY 687H, and KMFM 529E, believed to have been used to transport the stolen goods,” part of DCI’s statement read.
The DCI added, “Additionally, eight bags of cement were recovered along with the stolen fertiliser.”
In a parallel operation in Malindi, Kilifi County, security agencies apprehended 14 individuals after forensic investigations connected them to acts of vandalism and destruction of property during last week’s protests.
DCI also confirmed all arrested suspects are in police custody undergoing processing pending their court arraignment
This arrest adds to the recent one made by the police in various parts of the country in connection to vandalism of property and looting that happened during the protests. This follows intensified calls on the government to act swiftly in bringing the perpetrators of the violence to justice
