Detectives in Kirinyaga East Sub-County have arrested Newton Wachira Waweru for posing as a police officer and recovered a number of government stores from his residence in Thika.
According to a Directorate of Criminal Investigations ( DCI) statement, the operation relied on intelligence reports.
“Acting on intelligence reports, detectives arrested Newton Wachira Waweru, who, after interrogation, led them to his residence in Thika’s Makongeni area.”
DCI further reveals that during a search conducted at his Thika home, the detectives recovered various police and military items.
“A search of his premises yielded a trove of government stores including two police smoke jackets, two jungle green trousers, a green prison lanyard, desert military boots, and a replica firearm, among other items,” the statement said.
Waweru was taken into custody along with the recovered items. “He is currently undergoing processing as detectives prepare for his arraignment,” it added.
Detectives have further intensified investigations into the matter to determine the extent of the impersonation and whether the suspect has been involved in other criminal activities under the guise of law enforcement.
