U.S president Donald Trump has publicly ridiculed Elon Musk’s newly launched America Party, dismissing the tech mogul’s political ambitions as ‘ridiculous.’

Trump made the remarks during a press briefing on July 6, 2025, a day after Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX announced formation of the America Party on his social media platform, X.

“We have a tremendous success with the Republican Party. The Democrats have lost their way, but it’s always been a two-party system, and I think starting a third party just adds to confusion. It really seems to have been developed for two parties,” Trump declared.

The mockery by Trump has displayed the deepening rift between the two as Musk was a significant donor to Trump’s 2024 election campaign and previously lead the Department of Government Efficiency to curb federal expenditures before his departure on May 30, 2025.

The rift is rooted in disagreements over federal spending and the controversial ‘One Big, Beautiful Bill’ proposed by Trump.

The Bill contains major tax changes, welfare cuts, defense spending hikes and cultural policy shifts and was signed into law by President Trump at a ceremony held on July 4 2025, during Independence Day celebrations at the White House.

The Tesla founder heavily criticized and opposed the bill as it contained no federal subsidies for electronic vehicles and supposedly added to the country’s debt.

“Third parties have never worked, so he can have fun with it, but I think it’s ridiculous,” Trump added.

President Trump further blasted his former ally, labelling him a ‘TRAIN WRECK’ for creating a new third-party movement in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social.

“I am saddened to watch Elon Musk go completely “off the rails,” essentially becoming a TRAIN WRECK over the past five weeks. He even wants to start a Third Political Party, despite the fact that they have never succeeded in the United States – The System seems not designed for them. The one thing Third Parties are good for is the creation of Complete and Total DISRUPTION & CHAOS, and we have enough of that with the Radical Left Democrats, who have lost their confidence and their minds!” he wrote.
