Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has praised Kenyan youth for leading what he described as the nation’s Third Liberation, as they took to the streets during the Saba Saba protests on 7th July 2025.
Although Police barricades on major roads leading to Nairobi’s CBD restricted most protestors from city Centre a number of youths managed to demonstrate within the capital marking 35 years of multipartism in the country.
The Wiper Party Leader through his official X platform account, Kalonzo commended the young generation for peacefully standing up against impunity, injustice, corruption, and misrule.
“Today, the voice of resistance is found in our youth, who, in peaceful protest against impunity, injustice, corruption and misrule, use their phones to air, tweet, and record their grievances and concerns; carry a bottle of water to quench their march’s thirst; and carry the flag of Kenya to show the world how very proud they are to be Kenyan. They are the faces and voices of the Third Liberation,” Kalonzo stated.
Unlike previous protests which were marred with chaotic scenes in the city centre, the Saba Saba demos witnessed little activity in the City centre with police taking control of the day with ease.
Apart from transport being paralyzed, business operations remained closed for the whole day with fears of a repeat of looting incidents witnessed during the June 25th protests.
Kalonzo further drew parallels between the current youth-led protests and the historic struggle for multiparty democracy 35 years ago, when brave men and women campaigned for the repeal of Section 2A of the Constitution and the return of pluralism.
“As we celebrate our heroes, including Kenneth Matiba, Charles Rubia, and Martin Shikuku, we take this moment to salute the generational awakening sweeping through our beloved motherland,” he added.
Furthermore, he criticized the current administration on what he termed as a regime that has violated constitutional rights of its citizens and one that has failed to deliver on its pre-election agenda.
Kalonzo who is also a member of the ‘cousins coalition’ has affirmed his commitment to defending the basic rights of every citizen while also while emphasizing the coalition’s ambition to clinch the presidency in the upcoming 2027 General Election.
